My name is Grant Montgomery - AScT, CRD, CEA. I graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1977 with a Diploma in Building Engineering Technology. I am also a member of the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC. (Certified Residential Designer)
I don't have employees or assistants. I don't subcontract work out. You get all of me all the way through your design and drawing stages of your project. I don't advertise other than this website. All my business is through referrals. Chances are you heard about me from your Realtor, Building Inspector, Town Hall, RDOS, Building Supplier, Contractor, friend, relative, ...
I have lived in Rural Osoyoos since 1992. I primarily work in the Osoyoos/Oliver region and also West to Keremeos/Cawston and East covering all the Regal Ridge Development on Anarchist Mountain. Through the Internet I have done work for clients in Cache Creek, Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, Seattle, Whitehorse.
I have also done "local" projects as far up the Valley as Kelowna, as far East as Grand Forks, and as far West as Princeton. Often these clients come to me or don't mind paying the additional for travel. In the overall scheme of most projects the additional for my travel is insignificant. With the On Line Meetings we don't need to travel now.
Over the past 30+ years I have designed and drawn hundreds of buildings. I have also been involved in several international projects in New Zealand, Australia, Saipan, Thailand, and the Caribbean. These were Resort Developments. I was also involved in the development and project management of a golf course.
Prior to the advancements in computer technology we did things the old fashioned way, by hand. If you wanted to reverse a plan we merely printed the plans upside down. Now reversing a plan can be done in seconds. If you wanted a 3D view it could take the better part of 1 to 2 days depending on the size of the building. If you wanted it coloured add another day. Trees, shadowing, etc. another day. This can now be done in minutes.
Don't think that we don't have the "big city technology" here in little old Osoyoos. I use the most sophisticated 3D Architectural Software available. Basically I am using the $3,500 version of those $80 to $100 House Design programs available at most computer stores. Most big firms in the big cities aren't even as advanced technologically as my business.
I switched over to CAD drawings in 1993 and have been using it in one form or another ever since. I first started using the software I now use in 1996. It is upgraded annually with new features all the time. The capabilities of the software have grown enormously since then.
While there is a small learning curve with each upgrade it is minimal to an experienced user like myself. The advantage to you is that I can do some very preliminary designs in a matter of 1 to 2 hours right before your eyes. This "one on one" designing saves you time and money in the long run. Watch your building develop right in front of your eyes in full 3D on a 65" high definition TV screen.
